Do you remember that New PC Feel? It’s almost as exhilarating as that New Car Smell, isn’t it? You start it up, it goes from zero to sixty in less than the proverbial 4 seconds, and you’re ready to start working. With every step you take, every click you make, it’s as fast as lightning.

Then, as time goes on… you start to notice, “Hey, this thing isn’t zipping along quite like it used to?” Just like your brand new car, over time, your performance degrades for many reasons.

Updates and Patches:

Every now and then, routine maintenance needs to be done to your car. You have to get your oil changed, check your coolant and power steering fluid, have the tires rotated, all the basics. Think of this as your patches and updates. Over time, security updates close loopholes to prevent known threats or issues from effecting you. These help to keep your computer performance at a high level, but just like your car, over time, it’s not enough to keep you moving at 100%. Why? Eventually, product support expires, so no additional performance maintaining or enhancing updates can be applied to your system.

Hard Drive Performance:

Around 35,000 miles, your car manufacturer recommends checking in on your spark plugs, ignition system, brake pads, and suspension components. Why? Over time, these systems and parts degrade, not unlike your hard drive. As time passes, your hard drive requires maintenance to clean up your drive. It re-organizes how your data is stored on the drive to make it read more quickly. At a certain point, your drive is likely to lose the ability to retain data in portions of the drive. This kind of drive degradation causes your system to slow down.

Software Requirements:

Software developers consistently release new versions of software, in addition to updates that fix problems or bugs from the original release. This is similar to updates in modern cars for navigation, mobile device sync, audio programs, and other diagnostic utilities that detect potential problems with your vehicle. These updates can be completed to maximize the performance of your high-tech tools in your car, however, once your car’s utilities are outdated, product updates are no longer available, leaving you behind without the latest and greatest features on the market.

Imminent Progress:

Just like with cars, newer models of PCs are constantly improving. Processors, Memory, and Hard Drives after-ever outperforming those before them. Solid State Hard Drives are in use more and more frequently, along with more RAM and speedier processors. These advances in hardware result in better performance overall than the last generation of PCs.

Now that you’ve got a better understanding of why that sweet “new” four to five year old PC isn’t so fast anymore, AZBS is here to help you find the new PC to get you back in the express lane, and save you time in your daily routine.
