How the McAfee Spam Filter kept the lines of communication up when we were down

As most of you know, AZBS recently moved to a new office space. Though we only moved a couple of blocks, we encountered some unexpected challenges anyone moving across the city would have. The biggest hurdle we encountered was an unanticipated phone and internet outage. April 12, our internet and phone service provider AT&T accidentally terminated our service at our old office a week ahead of schedule. This is when our secondary failover internet, and more importantly, the new AZBS McAfee spam filtering service got its chance to shine.

Email Continuity

One of the most important features considered when AZBS selected McAfee to supply spam filtering service was Email Continuity. Email Continuity allows you to send, receive, reply and forward from within the Spam Filter portal. It behaves much the same as using a webmail application while away from a desktop. This service automatically enables after 15 minutes of the filter detecting normal mail flow has stopped. As you can see below, Alex was able to update our client using this service while our mail server was not accessible.

Email Continuity services remain available for an additional 24 hours after the service has detected mail flow has resumed from your server. When service has returned, the continuity service forwards all of your mail to your inbox. This includes all mail sent and received, as well as items replied to or deleted.

How to Access Continuity Services

Log into the spam filter at https://azbs.console.mxlogic.com/ using your email address and the password you setup on your account. If you have not yet setup your spam filter access at this time, this makes accessing the portal a bit more challenging if email is already down in your office. Contact AZBS, and we can assist with providing access if this is the case.

After logging into your spam filter, you will see this tab available to view mail for Email Continuity (See below).

The Email Continuity service is not available unless mail service is down.
